--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DURING THE TOUR WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO DO A NUMBER OF INTERVIEWS. THE FIRST ONE IS THE INTERVIEW WE DID WITH RHINO. HE HAD TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS WE ASKED HIM TWICE, BECAUSE THE FIRST TIME THE TAPE RECORDER REFUSED TO RECORD. BUT, WHEN YOU READ ON, YOU CAN FIND OUT A LOT ABOUT ÖÖ RHINO !!!

Interviewer: HAVE YOU PLAYED IN OTHER BANDS, BEFORE YOU JOINED MANOWAR ?

Rhino: No, none that I can recall. Nothing very serious, just practising a lot.

Interviewer: HOW EXACTLY DID YOU JOIN MANOWAR ?

Rhino: I knew Scott, heís a good friend of mine. And when the band needed a drummer, I imagine that I was one of the first people you could thought of to replace him. And they called me up.

Interviewer: WAS IT YOUR OWN IDEA TO LIT YOUR DRUMKIT INTO FIRE ?

Rhino: Yes, that was my own idea. To burn away the past, and all the memories of the past, to burn away all the bullshit that I went through. Put that life behind me and coming into MANOWAR, a new life.

Interviewer: DO YOU LIKE SPORTS ?

Rhino: Yes, I ride bikes. I love to ride bikes. I do it all the time. I race bikes. As soon as the warm weather comes back, when it ever does, I ride bikes !

Interviewer: YOUíRE PLAYING SO INCREDIBLY FAST AND LOUD LIVE, CAN YOU STILL HEAR YOURSELF DRUMMING ?

Rhino: Well, I can hear myself most of the time. The thing is, that we are playing louder and louder and eventually we need another planet to set all our gear on, I think.

Interviewer: WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVORITE MUSIC ?

Rhino: I like the old metal, Judas Priest, the old Sabbath, stuff like that. Donít ask me if I like new music, because I donít. I donít want to sound negative, but I just donít like it. I like also classical music, like Wagner and Beethoven. You know what I also like ? I bet you would never think of this, I like New Age music. Thereís something about it that is really spiritual and I like that type of sound, almost depressing in a way but not really, to a point where you feel like going into another planet or something.

Interviewer: WEíVE GOT A LOT OF QUESTIONS FROM FEMALE MEMBERS IF YOU ARE MARRIED OR HAVE A GIRLFRIEND ?

Rhino: Well, thatís great, thatís what I want to hear. So, no. Iím not married and I donít have a girlfriend.

Interviewer: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE MANOWAR FANS ?

Rhino: I think they are the greatest fans on earth. They are believing in MANOWAR almost like a religion. I think thatís really wonderful. They must believe that the band is powerful. In their lives, they feel that weíre very special, thatís so great. I hope weíll always be that way. We will never disappoint somebody, we never will.

Interviewer: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT BOOTLEGS ?

Rhino: I donít buy them. Iíve only heard a couple of them. I think that some of them, I donít want to approve of them because I think itís very bad, but some of them have a good quality. But most of them are really crummy. Itís very, very bad. I think that I can understand fans who buy them, because fans want to have everything from the band, theyíre collecting everything. But they pay a lot of money for something thatís not worth it.

Interviewer: DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE COUNTRY TO PLAY ?

Rhino: I have to say Germany, thatís probably my favorite country. Not because weíre so popular here, but I have a good feeling when we play in Germany. But to be honest, I like Europe, all of Europe, I love being here, I like walking around, I like shopping. I wished I could stay here for the rest of my life. I really mean that.

Interviewer: DO YOU STILL HAVE CONTACT WITH SCOTT COLUMBUS ?

Rhino: Yes, I do. I talked to him right before we gone on the road. His wife cuts my hair. His family is really doing fine. Iím glad about that.

Interviewer: DO YOU HAVE HOBBIES ?

Rhino: Yes, movies Ö. Horrormovies. If Iím not playing the drums, I like to watch movies. I like to eat, thatís probably a good hobby. And I like to ride my bike. Thatís really about it. O yes, I forgot to say that I like to film with my video Ė camera.

Interviewer: ARE YOU ALSO INTERESTED IN THE VIKING MYTHOLOGY ?

Rhino: Yes, I am. When I was in Highschool, I used to read a lot of that mythology. More Greek Mythology, then anything. I was very interested in the Greek Mythology. I always did go to the library. I used to draw pictures from Greek Gods, when I had some great pictures of them. I was really into that.

Interviewer: WHAT DOES THE NAME ď RHINO ď MEAN ?

Rhino: That means in Indian : ď Great Thunder ď.

Interviewer: WHEN WERE YOU BORN ?

Rhino: At Christmas Eve , 1964.

Interviewer: WHAT WAS THE FIRST BAND, THAT REALLY IMPRESSED YOU ?

Rhino: Rainbow, ď Long Live Rock Ďn Roll ď. My father heard the song on the radio and he said : ď It sounds like a pretty good band ď. So, he bought me the album for Christmas. First, I was very disappointed, because the album cover was brown, I didnít like it. But I put it on, heard the first song and Ö it was good. Next song : ď Lady of the Lake ď, and I was like Ö WOW !!!! This is fantastic !!! This was it !

Interviewer: DID YOU ALWAYS PLAY THE DRUMS ?

Rhino: Ys, always. I remember I was beating on shoe-boxes with toothbrushes. I was always beating on something. I had always the need to pound a rhythm. I have always rhytms in my head.

Interviewer: DO YOU PLAY OTHER INSTRUMENTS ?

Rhino: Yes, guitar and I play a little keyboards. I love to play the piano. Itís the most beautiful instrument in the world, I think.

Interviewer: DID YOU HAVE A MUSICAL EDUCATION ?

Rhino: No, I didnít have one, no.

Interviewer: IS IT TRUE, THAT YOU WENT INTO A STUDIO FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YOUR LIFE, WITH THE RECORDING OF THE TRIUMPH OF STEEL ALBUM ?

Rhino: Yes, thatís true. It was a surprise. It was not what I thought it was gonna be like, it was so controlled, so disciplined, and you have to really concentrate, itís so much of a concentration. But I had a really good time. It takes a lot of your time, it took me to do my stuff, maybe a couple of months. We always record first the drums, than Eric and than Dave and Joey.

Interviewer: WHAT WERE YOUR EXPERIENCES OF YOUR FIRST TOUR WITH MANOWAR ? DID YOU HAD THE FEELING YOU HAD TO PROVE YOURSELF ?

Rhino: Yes, somehow I had that feeling. Sometimes fans wouldnít let me sign stuff, but I didnít felt bad, because what can you do ? But now I donít have that feeling anymore.

Interviewer: DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE MANOWAR Ė SONG ?

Rhino: First : ď Wheels of Fire ď, definitely my number one. I like also Hail and Kill, Burning and Defender a lot.

Interviewer: WHAT KIND OF BOOKS DO YOU READ ?

Rhino: Stephan King, Clive Barker, that sort of books. But one of the last books Iíve read before the tour was : ď How to learn German ď.

Interviewer: DID YOU HAVE A JOB BEFORE YOU JOINED MANOWAR ?

Rhino: I did everything. From delivering cranberries door to door, to cooking chicken. I did everthing : washing dishes. One time I was working in a factory, and I remember I walked in that morning, looked around and thought : ď This ainít my scene ď. So, I clocked out and left. They were screaming ď Where are you going to ?Ē. And I said ď Iím going home, playing my drums ď. I just couldnít take it.

Interviewer: FOR THIS TOUR, YOU HAD TO LEARN A LOT OF NEW SONGS. WHAT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT ONE ?

Rhino: That is absolutely Achilles. Itís the hardest song Iíve ever played in my life. There so much double Ė bass in it. Itís very, very difficult.

Interviewer: WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE DUTCH DEFENDERS OF STEEL ?

Rhino: What do I think of them ? I think theyíre fucking great !

Interviewer: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY TO THE FANS ?

Rhino: I just want to say : keep hanginí on and keep listening to MANOWAR. Because the records are just gonna be better and better. And Ö just be there for us, because where will we be, without the fans. Thank you for everything. Hope to see you forever !
